DOCVILLE is the largest and only annual competitive documentary-only film festival in Belgium, held annually in Leuven with a strong focus on author-driven cinema that emphasizes the cinematic experience and cinematography. It showcases around 80 new documentaries from roughly 20 countries, many of which are premieres, and features a unique science-oriented subsection called ScienceVille. The festival is significant in the international circuit as an Academy Award-qualifying event, where the winner of the Best International Documentary award is automatically placed on the longlist for the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
